Working principle of the rocker arm:
A rocker arm (in automotive, marine, motorcycle, and reciprocating aviation type internal combustion engines) is a oscillating lever that transfers the radial motion of the cam lobe to linear motion at the poppet valve to open it. One end is raised and lowered by the rotating lobes of the camshaft (either directly or via lifters (lifters) and pushrods), while the other end acts on the valve stems. When the camshaft lobe lifts the outside of the arm, the inside pushes down on the valve stem, which opens the valve. When the camshaft rotates causing the outside of the arm to return, the inside rises, causing the valve spring to close the valve.
