Crushed stone or cornerstone is a form of construction aggregate, usually produced by mining a suitable rock deposit and using a crusher to break the removed rock to the required size. It differs from gravel produced by the natural processes of weathering and erosion, and generally has a more rounded shape. Corner crushed stone is a key material in gravel road construction, its strength depends on the interlocking of the corner faces of individual stone blocks. Crushed natural stone is similarly used for riprap, rail ballast and filter stone without binders. It can be used with binders in composite materials such as concrete, tarmac or asphalt.
