 This excitation device integrated in the air terminal is designed to increase the excitation distance and thus generate the ascending tracer earlier(regarding to an ascending tracer naturally emitted by a simple rod).

All of our early streamer emission systems are tested in compliance with NF C 17-102 standard,edition September 2011.

 INSTALLATION PRINCIPLES

Aim of the lightning conductors is to protect buildings against direct lightning strikes by capturing the des-cending tracer and flowing the lightning current to the earth,avoiding then to damage the structure.

Four types of lightning conductors:

According to NF EN 62305-3 standard

-Lightning conductors with simple rod(also named passive rods)

-Lightning conductors with meshed cage

-Lightning conductors with tight strand

According to NF C17-102 standard

-Early Streamer Emission lightning conductors named also ESE(with a radius protection more important than a simple rod)

INSTALLATION GUIDELINES

3 main components are part of a lightning protection system.

.The capturing device with its supporting mast and fixings.

.The down conductor composed of one or several tin-ned copper tape with section in compliance with stan-dards in force,designed to flow the lightning current of the lightning conductor to the earthing system.This conductor will usually run outside the structure.Each fixing should allow an eventual conductor dilatation.Bend radius have to be inferior to 0.2 meters.Metalli-cal masses situated in the zone of separation calculated beforehand will be interconnected equipotentially to the lightning conductor.Each down conductor will be equipped at the bottom with a control junction and a 2 meter-high mechanical protective tube.

.The earthing system with an adapted form in com-pliance with standards in force has for aim to diffuse the lightning current to the ground.An inspection pit  will be installed to do the equipotential connection with the nearest electrical earth netword of the building.

Installation quality of a lightning system is an impor-tant element ofr the efficiency of a lightning protection system.

For each installation and in most of cases it will be bet-ter to start with the installation of the earthing sys-tems,then as direct as possible channels of each down conductor,then finish with the lightning conductor and roof circuit installation.

Lightning protection system with early streamer emission air terminal(ESEAT)

These state-of-the-art technologies have been designed on the basis of a series of patent registered iointly by HELITA and the French National Scientific Research Centre(CNRS).The opr is equipped with an electronic device which is high pulse voltage of known and controlled frequency and ampli-tude enabling the early formation of the upward leader which is then continuously propagated towards the downward leader.This anticipation in the upward leader formation is essential with regard to the last scientific knowledge on the lightning attachment that acknowledge the fact that this one results from an upward leader competition.Today the upward leader competition is internationally recognized thanks to high speed cameras pictures of this phenomenon of attachment and to its digital simulation.The satelit draws its energy from the ambient electrical field during the storm.After capturing the lightning stroke,the satelit directs it towards the down conductors to the ground where it is dissipated.

The early streamer emission (ESE) concept

During a storm,when the propagation field conditions are favourable,the RY-SATELIT first generates an upward leader.This leader from the RY-SATELIT tip propagates towards the downward leader from the cloud at an average speed of 1 m/μs.The triggering time T(μs)is defined as the mean gain at the sparkover instant(continuous propagation of the upward leader)obtained with an ESE air terminal compared with a single rod air terminal exposed to the same conditions.T is measured in the high-voltage laboratory,all tests are defined in appendix C of the French standard NF C 17-102.
