Manganese is an element of group VIIb in the periodic table. It is a hard and brittle silver metal. It has an atomic number of 25 and an atomic weight of 54.938. It is insoluble in water. The melting point of manganese is 1244℃, the boiling point is 1962℃, and the density is 7.3g/cm³. Manganese sputtering targets are mainly used as desulfurizers or alloy additives in the steel industry to improve rolling and forging quality, strength, toughness, stiffness, wear resistance, hardness and hardenability. Manganese can be an austenite former and is used in the production of stainless steel, special alloy steel and stainless steel electrodes.
