2022 Hot Sale High Quality Wholesale Russian Origin Octane Ron Gasoline 95/Industrial Fuel Gasoline

Octane is a class of hydrocarbons that are a typical constituent of gasoline. They are colorless liquids with a boiling point of approximately 125 °C (260 °F). A member of the octane family, isooctane, is used as a reference standard to measure the tendency of gasoline or LPG fuels to resist spontaneous combustion.

The octane rating of gasoline is measured in test engines and is defined by comparison to a mixture of 2,2,4-trimethylpentane (isooctane) and heptane, which has the same Anti-knock ability: The volume percentage of 2,2,4-trimethylpentane in the mixture is the octane number of the fuel.

For example, gasoline with the same knock characteristics as a mixture of 90% isooctane and 10% heptane has an octane rating of 90. [2] A rating of 90 does not mean that the gasoline contains only those proportions of isooctane and heptane, but rather that it has the same anti-knock properties (generally, regular gasoline is never sold with only isooctane and heptane alkanes; it is a mixture of many hydrocarbons and often other additives). Because some fuels are more antiknock than pure isooctane, the definition has been extended to allow octane numbers greater than 100.

Aviation gasoline octane number

Aviation gasoline used in piston aircraft engines common in general aviation has a slightly different method of measuring fuel octane. Similar to AKI, it has two distinct ratings, although it is only referenced by the lower of the two. Aviation rich rating corresponds to the octane rating of the test engine in forced induction operation common in high performance and military piston aircraft. This utilizes a supercharger and uses a significantly richer fuel/air ratio for improved knock resistance.

The most commonly used fuel today, 100LL, has an aviation lean rating of 100 octane and an aviation rich rating of 130.

Estimating octane by these two laboratory methods requires standard engines, and the testing process is expensive and time-consuming. The standard engines required for testing may not always be available, especially in remote locations or in small or mobile laboratories. With these and other considerations in mind, the search for a rapid method of assessing the antiknock performance of gasoline was initiated. Such methods include FTIR, near-infrared online analyzer (ASTM D-2885), and others. Deriving an equation that can be used to calculate octane mass also serves the same purpose with additional advantages.

The term octane number is often used to refer to calculated octane mass, as distinct from (measured) research or engine octane numbers. Octane plays a big role in gasoline blending. Motor gasoline sold in the market is usually a blend of several refinery grades derived from different processes such as straight run gasoline, reformate, pyrolysis gasoline, etc. When blending to meet final product specifications, these different grades are considered a group. Most refineries produce and sell more than one grade of motor gasoline, which differ primarily in their antiknock qualities. The ability to predict the octane rating of a mixture prior to blending is critical, and the calculated octane index is particularly well suited for this.
