Leading exporter of the highest quality wholesale industrial fuel Octane Ron gasoline made in Russia 88, 91, 92, 95, 97

Octane is a class of hydrocarbons that are typical components of gasoline. They are colorless liquids that boil at around 125 °C (260 °F). Isooctane, a member of the octane family, is used as a reference standard to measure the tendency of gasoline or LPG fuels to resist spontaneous combustion.

The octane number of gasoline is measured in a test engine by comparison with a mixture of 2,2,4-trimethylpentane (iso-octane) and heptane (which has the same antiknock ability as the tested fuel) To define: The volume percent of 2,2,4-trimethylpentane in this mixture is the octane number of the fuel. For example, gasoline with the same knock

Characterized as a mixture of 90% isooctane and 10% heptane, it has an octane number of 90. [2] A rating of 90 does not mean that the gasoline contains only isooctane and heptane in these proportions, but that it has the same anti-knock properties (usually, regular gasoline is never sold with isooctane and heptane alone ; it is a mixture of many hydrocarbons and usually other additives). Since some fuels are more resistant to knocking than pure isooctane, this definition has been extended to allow octane numbers greater than 100.

Aviation gasoline octane number

Aviation gasoline used in piston aircraft engines commonly found in general aviation measures fuel octane in a slightly different way. Similar to AKI, it has two different ratings, although it is only mentioned by the lower of the two. Aviation rich grades that correspond to the octane rating of the test engine under forced induction operation common to high performance and military piston aircraft. This takes advantage of the supercharger and uses a significantly richer fuel/air ratio to improve knock resistance.

Currently the most commonly used fuel, 100LL, has an aviation lean grade of 100 octane and an aviation rich grade of 130.

The assessment of octane rating by both laboratory methods requires a standard engine, and the testing process is expensive and time-consuming. Standard engines required for testing may not always be available, especially in remote locations or in small or mobile labs. These and other considerations led to the search for a method to rapidly assess the antiknock performance of gasoline. Such methods include FTIR, near-infrared on-line analyzer (ASTM D-2885), and the like. Deriving an equation that can be used to calculate octane rating can serve the same purpose, with the added advantage.

The term octane index is often used to refer to the calculated octane mass, in contrast to the (measured) research or engine octane rating. Octane helps a lot in gasoline blending. Commercially available motor gasoline is usually a blend of several refining grades from different processes, such as straight-run gasoline, reformate, pyrolysis gasoline, etc. These different grades are treated as a group when blended to meet final product specifications. Most refineries produce and sell more than one grade of motor gasoline, the main difference being anti-knock properties. The ability to predict the octane number of a blend prior to blending is essential, and the calculated octane index is particularly well suited for this.
