Q: How much energy can my battery store? A: Battery capacity is measured by Amp hours(e.g 17AH),you need to convert this to Watt Hours by multiplying the AH figure by the battery voltage(e.g 12V), a simple calculation bellow: X (Battery size in AH) × Y (Battery voltage) = Z(Power available in watt hours) For a 20AH, 12V battery,the watt hour figure is 20(X) × 12(Y) = 240WH(Z) This means the battery could supply 240W for 1 hour,120W for 2 hours or 2W for 120hours....The more power you take,the faster the battery discharge.
Q: How to determine my inverter size?
A:The main consideration is the capacity. It's important to choose an inverter that has slightly more capacity than the peak power your home need.Simple way is to add up all the appliance power usage including:
1) Resistive loads like bulb,ovan --- Take same power as load
2) Capasitive loads like DVD,PC --- Take 2-3 times power as load
3) Inductive loads like Refrigerator ---Take 4-5 times power as load It's unlikely that you will running all these appliances at once but if it happends,we need to make sure that the inverter will be able to handle the load.
Q: How to connect the PV panels and inverter?
A: One of the factors that can affect your inverter performance is the distance between solar panel array and the battery bank,the longer the wire used here,the lower your inverter's voltage should be to perform otipmally,because with long wires,the voltage drops and current increases.
